Attendance

Attendance at St. Andrew’s School is very good and improving. Regular and punctual attendance is necessary if children are to gain full benefit from school. We ask all parents / carers to remember their responsibility to ensure that children arrive punctually each day. We follow the Borough’s policy if children are regularly collected late at the end of the school day.

Please make sure that you telephone the school to inform us if your child is unwell on the first day of their absence and that you send a note with your child on their return.

The DCSF expects all children to have an attendance in excess of 90% other than in exceptional circumstances. Our Education Welfare Officer visits the school regularly to check registers and to follow up prolonged absence, irregular attendance or frequent late arrival. Unauthorised absences will be recorded and reported to parents / carers.

Please don’t send in children who are not well!

Unless it has been previously arranged that they return home for lunch each day, pupils must remain in school. Please notify the office in advance if you need to collect your child, e.g. for a dental or hospital appointment, and ensure that (s)he is collected by a responsible adult. It is important that you try to arrange for such appointments to take place out of school hours if possible.

We will authorise only ten days’ holiday during the school year. Longer holidays or requests for holidays for children with less than 90% attendance will not generally be authorised. We do not give permission to work, for example in modelling or filming, unless they have at least 95% attendance.

If your child is in Year 6, don’t forget that (s)he will be taking SATs in May and that revision of the work covered in this school takes place for several weeks beforehand. Full attendance is most important during this time.
